The Slinky is a precompressed helical spring invented by Richard James in the early 1940s. It can perform a number of tricks; travelling down a flight of steps end-over-end as it stretches and re-forms itself with the aid of gravity and its own momentum, or appear to levitate for a period of time after it has been dropped. Tell me, Will...can you reform yourself with the aid of your own momentum? Or will you appear to levitate after you've been dropped?

[–][deleted] 329 points330 points  (5 children)

Well, I don't know, Dr. Lecter. I think that if you drop a toy down the stairs again and again, you lose the privilege of choosing what happens to it.

[–]danubian1 77 points78 points  (1 child)

You. You got it.

[–]Qingy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Twist: (S)he is actually one of the writers of the show.

[–]obdot 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hahaha YES!!!

[–]your_mind_achesLAAAAAAAA 15 points16 points  (0 children)

OH BOY. That was great.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Perhaps before it was dropped the choice was already made. Its fate already decided prior to its first launch into motion. Tell me will, has your fate been decided already? Or do you believe you are in control?

Grisly

[–]MeganHM 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Wow. This is a good one.

[–]ludicrouscuriosity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That reminds me a lot of the tea cup quote

[–]mcoddleIt's beautiful. 385 points386 points  (4 children)

A cat is an obligate carnivore, a predator, yet is kept as a pet by millions of people. Tell me, Will, would you please feed my cat while I am out of town next week?

[–]Jameson_Beam[S] 192 points193 points  (3 children)

Well, I don't know, Dr. Lecter. I'm more of a dog person.

[–]traced_169 144 points145 points  (2 children)

*slight facial twitch followed by smile

[–]goarano 27 points28 points  (1 child)

Even before reading your comment, I imagined Will's face doing exactly that

[–]rheddiittoorr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mild nerd laugh.

[–]butterbeerben 441 points442 points  (7 children)

The internet is a bastion of thought and expression. You speak lovingly of your boyfriend, but tell me Will... does he speak lovingly of you? Something something kill your boyfriend.

[–]TexasDD 136 points137 points  (0 children)

Something, something tea cup, Dr. Lecter.

[–]CarbonCreed 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Why would Hannibal want to commit suicide?

[–]matthew7s26 48 points49 points  (3 children)

All my life I've been bringing knives to gunfights, Will. And now that I've got a gun the whole fuckin' world switched back to knives.

Wait, shit... I Vinceposted in a Hannibal thread.

I feel like hannibal is more subtle.

[–]MeganHM 118 points119 points  (6 children)

A shirt is merely fabric sewn together to ultimately cover up our real selves. Tell me, Will....are you covering up your real self?

[–]RivetheadGirl 133 points134 points  (5 children)

Because I really want to see that ass, daaauumm!!!

[–][deleted] 43 points44 points  (3 children)

You seem to be the Mason in this thread of otherwise prim and erudite characters. :p

[–]d_b_cooperBelieve me, you don't want Hannibal Lecter inside your head 46 points47 points  (2 children)

Spitters are quitters

[–]RivetheadGirl 27 points28 points  (1 child)

And I'm never a quitter.

[–]traced_169 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ohrh, c'mon Margooot. Don't be like thaaat. Just having a bit of fun. All work and no play.

[–]MeganHM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hear ya.

[–]labbla 117 points118 points  (10 children)

I always like how characters talk about Will Graham (they usually say his full name) when he's not around. Such as...

"You have plans within plans and wheels within wheels, Hannibal. You're a snake eating it's own tail. Yet you still seem unsatisfied...perhaps this snake is actually hungry for Will Graham?"

[–][deleted] 87 points88 points  (0 children)

It's funniest when the characters are speaking to Hannibal or about Hannibal, and they enunciate "Will Graham" with mockery, like grade school kids teasing someone for having a "boyfriend" and making kissy noises.

[–]yeeveesee 72 points73 points  (3 children)

also whenever they refer to Abigail's dad it's always "Garret Jacob Hobbs". I don't think I've ever heard just "Garret Hobbs"

[–][deleted] 55 points56 points  (1 child)

"Too bad about what happened to Gar-Gar."

[–]Captain_Cain 51 points52 points  (0 children)

People use nick-names to reinforce their closeness, and to remind each other of their relationship. Tell me Will, what are you trying to remind me of?

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because he also assassinated a president

[–]drh0usemdThat may have been impulsive. 16 points17 points  (3 children)

It just sounds better when Will Graham isn't there.

[–]ZombieButchhas... disadvantages. 37 points38 points  (2 children)

It's so they know they're not talking about Wil Wheaton.

"An orchestra is a group of individuals working together in perfect tempo and time. Tell me Wil, are you feeling out of tune?"

"Not as much as I did during season 1 of Next Generation. Let me tell you an amusing anecdote about Johnathan Frakes and his fondness for strong liquor and Asian massage parlors..."

"I'm afraid that's all the time we have for today."

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I want to see Hannibal actors (and Bryan Fuller) on TableTop!

[–]lasersaurous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bryan on tabletop would be so good!

[–]openpenis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I thought I was the only one who noticed. Writers should really improve on that to make their characters more believable. Like House and Cuddy always using their surnames, even when they were dating.

[–]obdot 308 points309 points  (16 children)

This is absolutely hilarious, because my fiancé and I ALSO enjoy talking like Hannibal to each other, except then the other of us always answers as Will. The trick there is to speak in a slightly nasal tone, stuttering a tiny bit, speaking haltedly and hauntedly, shooting down Hannibal's question in a bitchy manner.

(On potlucks) "Well, I don't know, Dr. Lecter. I certainly don't feel very lucky."

(On bean salad) "Well, I don't know, Dr. Lecter. I always find garbanzos to have a bitter taste."

[–]danubian1 65 points66 points  (3 children)

Nailed it

[–]Jameson_Beam[S] 94 points95 points  (2 children)

Snailed it.

[–]obdot 45 points46 points  (1 child)

Seriously though, your formula for Hannibal speak is SO good and fool-proof. We will definitely be adopting it :-)

[–]Jameson_Beam[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The bitchy Will response is the icing on the cake.

[–]Jameson_Beam[S] 20 points21 points  (10 children)

Question though -- Does Will call him Dr. Lecter? I think Jack uses Dr. Lecter more.

Also, I'm a huge nerd.

[–]obdot 29 points30 points  (3 children)

Also a huge nerd!

I have been searching for the relevant tumblr post, which concerned the importance of the first time Will actually started using Hannibal's first name. I remember faintly it being a pivotal moment!!! Alas, can't find it right now, but I did find this: http://thecatsred.tumblr.com/post/53573265030/how-many-times-does-hannibal-say-will

Which is a hoot! (But unfortunately only seems to cover season 1.)

[–]captainlocke 39 points40 points  (2 children)

This is amazing. I never realized he uses Will's name so much, but it makes sense in a way. Abusers often say a victim's name in order to have their victim identify with them/feel appreciated by them. It forces a bond.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work in a call center. We are required to use a person's name at least 3 times during what may be a 3 minute phone call. I am bookmarking this because reasons.

[–]your_mind_achesLAAAAAAAA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes so much sense...

[–]obdot 19 points20 points  (5 children)

The important difference between Jack saying Dr Lecter and Will saying Dr Lecter; is Jack says it normal, and Will says it DOCK-terrrrr LECK-terrrrrrrrr......

[–]Sharkn91 9 points10 points  (4 children)

DOCK... LECK...

DOCKLECK

DOCKLECK

DALEK..

Coincidence?

[–]dontthrowmeinabox 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Almost certainly?

[–]Sharkn91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah probably

[–]your_mind_achesLAAAAAAAA 12 points13 points  (1 child)

SURRENDER! OBEY!!! YOU WILL BE EXTERMINATED! YOU WILL BE SERVED IN A NICE AMUSE BOUCHE!

[–]Sharkn91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is the response I was looking for.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haltedly is certainly key. My Hannibal drinking game only has one rule. "Drink whenever Will pauses mid-sentence". Regardless of drinking, the friend I watch it with and I laugh nearly every time he does it.

"Well, I don't know, Dr. Lecter. I certainly don't feel very..............lucky".

[–]ParapsychologistI'm full of myself. 88 points89 points  (10 children)

Here's an idea. Hit a random article on Wikipedia and use that.

The Starling Childs Camp is a historic cottage on the south shore of Doolittle Lake in Norfolk, Connecticut. It is a 1-1/2 story frame structure on a rubble fieldstone foundation. Tell me, Will... Is your foundation made of rubble fieldstone or the marble of my memory palace?

[–]LordWhat 33 points34 points  (2 children)

"Whistleblower" is the 26th episode and season finale of the sixth season of the U.S. comedy series The Office. Tell me Will, when this season of our lives reaches its denouement, who will betray whom?

[–]ParapsychologistI'm full of myself. 22 points23 points  (1 child)

"Well, I don't know, Dr. Lecter... Are we canceled? WHAT?"

[–]LordWhat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

turns out NBC was the real villain all along.

[–]amybris 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Will Grayson, Will Grayson is a novel by John Green and David Levithan, published in April 2010 by Dutton Juvenile. The book's narrative is divided evenly between two boys named Will Grayson, with Green having written all of the chapters for one, and Levithan having written the chapters for the other which is presented in an alternating chapter fashion. The novel debuted on The New York Times children's best-seller list after its release and remained there for three weeks. It was the first LGBT-themed young adult novel to make it to that list. Tell me, Will, are you Will Grayson or Will Grayson?

[–]akuma_river 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I never knew that. Sounds like an interesting book.

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (4 children)

holy shit that's a hilarious idea

Criticism of Coca-Cola has arisen from various groups, concerning a variety of issues, including health effects, environmental issues, and business practices. The Coca-Cola Company, its subsidiaries and products have been subject to sustained criticism by both consumer groups, leftist activists and watchdogs, particularly since the early 2000s. Tell me, Will...what criticism has arisen against you? Is our most sustained criticism, perhaps, from our own selves?

[–]ParapsychologistI'm full of myself. 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The idea of Hannibal even talking about soda makes me giggle. If he only partook...

[–]jacobi123 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I'm a month late, but I love this post so much.

[–]the_cake_is_lies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're a real Garrett jacobi123 Hobbes there...

[–]pornthrow4711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also like it

[–]raffi10 82 points83 points  (4 children)

This parody does a spectacular job of illustrating this. Plus there's a wendigo.

[–]Irregular_SteveFully aware of what I do and the consequences of my actions. 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Aw that sweet Wendigo action. And I could just picture Mads talking about those snow eating deer. That's just the kind of obscure and slightly biologically unnerving fact he would quote.

[–]mrspaprika 14 points15 points  (0 children)

oh my gosh thank you for sharing this, I just died

[–]hatfulofmadness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was amazing.

[–]Mccmangus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that's exactly how will appropriates mindsets.

[–]TubaMike 152 points153 points  (3 children)

Exhales through nose

Charles Caleb Colton once wrote that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Takes a sip of wine. Tell me, Jameson_Beam, who are you trying to impress?

[–]Jameson_Beam[S] 57 points58 points  (2 children)

Well, I don't know, Dr. Lecter. Monkey see...monkey do.

[–]GrimnirOdinsonIt's not what you appreciate, it's that you appreciate it. 25 points26 points  (1 child)

It is commonly accepted that humans evolved from apes and monkeys. They are our closest relatives, and by looking at them, we can see a reflection of ourselves. Tell me, Will, do you see a reflection of yourself in monkeys?

Is this close?

[–]Jameson_Beam[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Well, I don't know, Dr. Lecter. How close would you like to get?

[–]FiveringsIs it that kind of party? 66 points67 points  (9 children)

I find talking dirty in Mason's style pretty satisfying.

[–]ParapsychologistI'm full of myself. 94 points95 points  (5 children)

I try to work "Verger baybeh" into regular conversation with his accent.

[–]nonliteral 33 points34 points  (1 child)

Be sure to tell them about The Riz, too.

[–]And_You_Like_It_Too 16 points17 points  (1 child)

The first time he brought it up, I thought he said he wanted Margo to have a "Virgin Baby".

[–]ParapsychologistI'm full of myself. 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, geez, I'd hope it's a virgin! Although Mason is very twisted, and I wouldn't be surprised.

[–]pancakebrainenchanted & terrifed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

pig metaphors and "this little piggy went wee wee we all the way home"

[–]PlaceInteresting1776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had an epiphany Mason sounds kinda like a sadistic Mae West (or a sadist doing an impersonation of Mae West).

[–]porcellus_ultorvide cor tuum 57 points58 points  (1 child)

Aaaaand I'm totally guilty of this, too... I've dreamed up more than a few ridiculous conversations between Will and Hannibal recently. Maybe it's my way of mourning the show's eminent demise, or maybe I've just fallen down the rabbit hole.

I was recently watching the horror film May, and the whole plot just kind of felt to me like a season one killer-of-the-week episode. My mind just sort of extrapolated... I could so clearly see Will in Hannibal's office talking about the case.

"She's using the missing parts to make a friend. She's... lonely."

"When Zeuxis painted his famed image of Aphrodite, he constructed her from the careful selection of beautiful features from five local women. The ideal body, composed of an assemblage of discrete pieces. Tell me, Will... do you think we seek out friends based on the qualities we admire most or wish we ourselves could posses? Is this perhaps why we have gravitated toward each other?"

[–]ParapsychologistI'm full of myself. 47 points48 points  (5 children)

I also want to say that my boyfriend walks between rooms and regularly says in a cheesy Will Graham voice, "He's... He's eating them..." He also smothers me, smacks his lips, and moans, "Coordeeelll," in my ear.

Please say I'm not alone.

[–]rainbowbattlekid 28 points29 points  (1 child)

my wife has finally escaped my constant Rick(of Rick and Morty) impressions only to find herself in the even bigger prison that is my constant Mason Verger impressions.

[–]ParapsychologistI'm full of myself. 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Neither are sexy in bed. In fact, the idea of anyone whipping those impressions out during sex kinda horrifies me.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I can imagine someone affecting Mason's "MAR-GOT!" when their SO is in another room.

[–]ParapsychologistI'm full of myself. 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If that ever happened, I'd make sure he was wheelchair-bound by the end of the day.

[–]kitedancing 78 points79 points  (4 children)

"Do you desire Tobias...sexually?"

Mads says it with a completely straight face.

[–][deleted] 51 points52 points  (2 children)

I'd love to watch Hannibal attempt marriage counseling for Lindsay and Tobias Fünke.

[–][deleted] 48 points49 points  (1 child)

And now the story of an FBI that lost everything, and the one cannibal who had no choice but to keep them all together.

[–]grinninggothamite 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How does he do it

[–]rooster03 111 points112 points  (7 children)

I don't think I'm clever enough for this.

[–]LollyAdverb 154 points155 points  (6 children)

Cleverness is measured by its effect on the recipient. Tell me rooster03, what effect will this reply have on you?

[–]Koneesha 46 points47 points  (5 children)

Replys are just sounds that humans have interpreted throughout the years to have meaning. Without meaning replys are just hollow shells of what they could become. Tell me, Lolly Adverb have you truly considered the meaning of your reply, or is it just a shell?

The gift of empathy can give a man many things, among those: understanding and compassion. If left unrestrained, however, it can also mold the man into someone unrecognizable.

A male passenger is typically loitering in the passenger side of the vehicle belonging to his favorite companion. Tell me, Will, what would you do if a scrub were to holler at you?

[–]AlmostApples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, Doctor Lecter, I wouldn't worry- ultimately, we both know a scrub could not approach me.

[–]brown-ale 14 points15 points  (3 children)

this is hilarious.

I unfortunately am not this clever and witty.

[–]GrimnirOdinsonIt's not what you appreciate, it's that you appreciate it. 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Cleverness and wit are seen as desirable traits by many. Tell me Will, what traits do you see as desirable?

I don't know if I'm doing it right, or if I'm not clever enough for this.

[–]brown-ale 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Well Dr. Lecter, a trait identifies a quality or characteristic of an individual, naturally one would desire the finest of the two. But in my case I just want to be left alone and not pushed off a train, shot in the neck and have my head sliced open while traveling through Italy.

[–]GrimnirOdinsonIt's not what you appreciate, it's that you appreciate it. 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the things that we desire are things that are beyond our grasp. Tell me, Will. Do you desire things that are within your grasp, or beyond it?

[–]Imago90 13 points14 points  (0 children)

LMAO... that's pretty clever, definitely works really well.

[–]thewanderingway 22 points23 points  (6 children)

Pillow talk between you two must be insane.

[–]Jameson_Beam[S] 13 points14 points  (5 children)

The end of the show, as with all things, is inevitable. But tell me Will, what does your end look like? Those last fleeting thoughts, will they be hysterical, peaceful, reflective. What do you see when you peer into the darkness of your own mind, Will?

[–]lukahnli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope everyone here is familiar with the twitter account Hannibal at the Zoo......now called Hannibal at the Mall.

This reminds me of those.

I totally just laughed off of these posts and that drew me into this thread

I know the new season of True Detective is supposed to be bad, but I really want to catch up so I can talk about it with people online. It seems like it might actually be more fun to discuss/trash bad shows... though I guess it's probably less fun to watch.

It's... I dunno. The dedicated fanboys are eating it up, because of course they are. But critics are being harsher, I think rightly so. Both Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes have S2 in the 60s to season 1's 80ish ratings, and I feel that's a fair assessment.

One shining spot is that Rachel McAdams is so fucking good that I absolutely expect her to get some heavier roles in the future. She's crushin it.

Well I got the impression that it was "bad" in the sense that it's quite watchable but nothing too special. I've got plenty of hourlong series that I want to watch (Bloodline, Mad Men Season 7.5, Rectify, Hannibal again, Orange is the New Black, The 100, the GoT finale), so unfortunately I feel like I'm probably going to end up missing the window for watching the show and talking about it with people.

Well there's not a ton to talk about this season to be honest. You won't be missing much. Worth a watch when you get around to it though.

It's a slow build.

I think the problem is that they are bringing up a real cult/conspiracy group that has existed for 150 years in California but they can't say the name. So they constantly bring up the area the place is in, but those not in the know don't know what they doing and referencing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohemian_Grove

Bohemian Grove is a 2,700-acre (1,100 ha) campground located at 20601 Bohemian Avenue, in Monte Rio, California, belonging to a private San Francisco-based men's art club known as the Bohemian Club. In mid-July each year, Bohemian Grove hosts a two-week, three-weekend encampment of some of the most prominent people in the world.[1][2]

The Bohemian Club's all-male membership and guest list includes artists, particularly musicians, as well as many prominent business leaders, government officials (including U.S. presidents), senior media executives, and people of power.[3][4] Members may invite guests to the Grove although those guests are subject to a screening procedure. A guest's first glimpse of the Grove typically is during the "Spring Jinks" in June, preceding the main July encampment. Bohemian club members can schedule private day-use events at the Grove any time it is not being used for Club-wide purposes, and are allowed at these times to bring spouses, family and friends, though female and minor guests must be off the property by 9 or 10 pm.[5]

The parties that are constantly being brought up reference how the Bohemian Society has their secret parties as well.

I'm quite curious as to where they plan on taking this because it's very interesting in a certain type of way completely different from season 1.

In 1991, in order to compete with the popular platformer Super Mario World, the video production company created Sonic the Hedgehog. The titular character's main trademark is the ability to run at blazing speed. Besides that, one of the key features in the game is to continue moving forward, and away from you past mistakes.

Tell me Will, are you too, going fast, away from your past mistakes?

A picture is simply a single instant forever immortalized to reflect and contemplate on. Tell me (person), what moment in your life would you freeze forever? Or is there a moment you would rather erase?

[–]random_reddit_dudeMargot was like: "Eat me Alana!". But Alana was like "Not cool." 2 points3 points  (2 children)

This is great!

Now we just need a formula on how to talk like Mason Verger. :)

Mindreading is the transfer of information between people without the use of the 5 senses, tell me random_reddit_dude, have you considered the implications of knowing my next thread idea?

We wear the mask that grins and lies. It shields our cheeks and shades our eyes. Tell me, Will---what is your mask hiding?

"Tell me, Will...do you cry over choice-based video games about lesbian hipsters as if they were real, and if the events were happening to yourself?" (Yes, I was playing Life is Strange 10 minutes ago.)
